Let me introduce you to the NEW VENUS, a delicious handmade crochet unique piece designed to satisfy your mermaid fantasies. Venus was born at a dinner at a friend’s rooftop party in Barcelona, where Anouk and I (Elena) started brainstorming about it. We decided to do a collaboration together and create Venus. A few days later, we met up for coffee in Raval (Barcelona), giving more shape and details to the new creation.
Anouk is from Holland and is a local in Barcelona. She’s a very creative and enthusiastic friend who is amazing (in many things) but also at creating with textiles. Her knitting skills with crochet are from another planet. Her hands are the ones making each Venus, at her home in Barcelona and although each piece it takes Anouk around 7 hours, Venus is coming in hot.
The background inspiration was Venus, the ancient mythology goddess of love, beauty, motherhood, fertility, and sex, associated with cultivated fields and gardens and later identified by the Romans with the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite.
the goddess Venus has been a favorite subject in art since ancient times; notable representations include the statue known as the Venus de Milo (c. 150 BCE) and Sandro Botticelli’s painting The Birth of Venus (c. 1485).
Made of cotton, in a unique size, with adjustable straps on the neckline and on the back. Only a small batch is available.
